Carlsbad


Carlsbad beaches offer a variety of activities like body boarding, windsurfing, camping, bird watching, hiking, kayaking, swimming and surfing. The beach is about 5 miles in length and has picnic areas on the beach and above the bluff. Walk the coast or the nearly mile-long seawall or walkway by the beach, beginning one block south of Carlsbad Village Drive. Lifeguards are stationed along the coast and showers are available on Tamarack Avenue and Christiansen Way.

Parking There is plenty of street parking near the beach. There is also a lot on Tamarack Avenue but you’ll want to get there early to find a space. Directions Carlsbad Beach is located on 100 Tamarack Avenue. From the South: Take I-5 North to Tamarack Avenue Turn Left From the North: Take I-5 South to Tamarack Avenue Turn Right The Amtrak “Coaster” travels up the coast from San Diego is a good option for a leisurely trip in San Diego and will drop off passengers a few blocks from the beach. Tips Head South on the beach if you don’t want to be near teenagers and families, which will have fewer people and a campground between the bluffs and the highway with over 200 campsites. Batiquitos Lagoon is in the South Carlsbad State Beach and has 600 acres of restored wetlands, hiking trail and visitor’s center. More south is a community of Leucadia is Ponto Beach, known for its high sand dunes. For a great scenic drive: From the South: Take the I-5 North to the La Costa Avenue exit Drive North along the coast highway to Carlsbad Village From the North: Take the I-5 South and exit Tamarack Avenue Drive South along the coast highway to Leucadia This coastline is fairly undeveloped offering natural ocean and lagoons.
