Coronado City Beach
Visitors can spend an entire day at the Coronado City Beach. Many activities are available including, sailing, body boarding, fishing, swimming, beach volleyball, kite flying and tide pool exploration. There is also a bike path south of the Hotel Del Coronado. In the early winter, keep a look out for migrating whales.
This tiny upscale island city, boasts flat sandy beaches, boutiques, restaurants, stately homes and breaktaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Coronado Municipal Beach is popular with families and tourists and is located on the ocean side of Coronado Island, south of the naval air station.
Beach areas have fire rings, showers, lifeguards and restrooms. There is also an off-lease dog area to the north.

Parking
Parking is free on Ocean Boulevard but can get crowded if you don’t arrive before 11am. There are also free parking lots on Avenida Lunar and Avenida de las Arenas.
Directions
Coronado is short ferry ride or car drive across the Bay Bridge from downtown San Diego. From the Bay Bridge, go down several blocks on Third Street. Turn left onto Orange Avenue. Then turn right onto R.H. Dana Place which will take you to Ocean Boulevard. Coronado Municipal Beach runs along Ocean Boulevard from Avenida Lunar in the south to Naval Air Station North Island Gate 5 to the North.
The ferry departs from downtown San Diego at Broadway Pier. Bicycles are allowed onboard.
Tips
Near the ferry landing at the end of Orange Avenue is an excellent starting point for walking and biking. You can rent bicycles near the ferry landing. Bike riders who want a challenging ride, can follow the path south and east. Follow the pathway under the bridge at Tidelands Park and continue to Glorietta Boulevard, turn left and continue to Silver Strand Highway. A asphalt pathway on the bayside will come up and run all the way to Imperial Beach.
Glorietta Bay Beach is south of Hotel Del Coronado and is a nice alternative for families offering both a playground and beach in a park-like setting with views of San Diego and Coronado Bridge. The Park also offers a boat ramp, small sandy beach and children’s area. Spreckels Park is located in the middle of the island, frequently hosts art and craft fairs on weekends and holidays.
