La Jolla Cove


Not too far from downtown La Jolla is La Jolla Cove a swimming and diving paradise. This tiny beach area is sheltered by cliffs and and offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. The Cove has some of the clearest water of all the San Diego beaches making it ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling. The waves are gentle at the Cove and can make for an enjoyable day of picnicking, reading a book or sunbathing. Above La Jolla Cove is Scripps Park, which is a great place for picnicking with a view of the Pacific Ocean. The walking trails are next to Coast Boulevard which is above the beach and offers world class views of the water.

Lifeguards are present year-round. The Scripps Park offers public restrooms and showers. There is no disabled access at La Jolla Cove due to the steep incline to the waters. The La Jolla Cove is also reserved for swimmers and divers only, no surfers allowed.

Parking:

There are no parking spots next to the beach and street parking (metered during the week) will fill up quickly on summer weekends. Its best to arrive early, park downtown in one of the paid lots or stroll down the beach from a hotel.

Directions:

La Jolla Cove is located at 1100 Coast Boulevard.

From the North:

Take I-5 South to La Jolla Village drive, West
Turn left on Torrey Pines Road
Follow it to Prospect Street and turn right
Bear right on Coast Boulevard and look for signs

From the South:

Take the I-5 North to Ardath Road, which will turn into Torrey Pines Road
Follow Torrey Pines Road to Prospect Street and turn right
Stay right on Coast Boulevard and look for signs

Tips

Hands down, La Jolla Cove is the best snorkeling location in San Diego. The water is clear, clam and suitable for children and beginners. The undersea life is abundant and close to shore. Arrive early for the best experience and lay out your towels and gear on the beach. Snorkeling rentals are available on Coast Boulevard and Prospect Street.
