La Jolla Cove Snorkeling Adventure
Snorkeling is one of the most popular ocean activities in San Diego. Not far from downtown La Jolla and the upscale hamlet of hotels and galleries, is La Jolla Cove. It’s a swimming and diving paradise and one of San Diego’s most popular snorkeling spots. The tiny beach area, is sheltered by high cliffs and offers some stunning views of the Pacific Ocean in a very intimate setting. Some of the clearest water in San Diego resides in La Jolla Cove making it deal for snorkeling and scuba diving. It is also an ideal place for enjoying a picnic, sunbathing or eating at one of the nearby restaurants, with a great view of the ocean. The walking trails next to Coast Boulevard, offer world-class views of the ocean and sandstone cliffs leading down.
Lifeguards are stationed year-round and no worries, public restrooms and showers are present. There is no disabled access at La Jolla Cove because of the steep incline to the beach. No surfers are allowed, only swimmers and divers.
Parking
There are no parking lots next to the beach and street parking can fill up quickly, so arrive before 9:00 am is possible, especially on summer weekends. It’s best to come early, park downtown in a paid lot or take a stroll from one of the hotels.
Location
La Jolla Cove is located at 1100 Coast Boulevard.
From the North:
Take 1-5 to La Jolla Village Drive, West
Turn Left on Torrey Pines Road
Turn Right on Prospect Street
Bear right on Coast Boulevard and Look for signs
From the South:
Take 1-5 North to Ardath Road
Ardath, will turn into Torrey Pines Road
Turn Right on Prospect Street
Bear right on Coast Boulevard and Look for signs
Tips
La Jolla Cove offers the best snorkeling in San Diego. The water is calm, suitable for beginners and children. Undersea life is abundant and very close to shore. Arrive early and find a little area on the beach to lay your towels and gear. Snorkeling gear rentals are available on Coast Boulevard and Prospect Street, only 1-2 blocks away.
